What Is Artificial Intelligence?

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

I've been to so many manufacturing plants. I've yet to walk into one where I did not think AI solutions wouldn't help.

Let me elaborate.

AI, elaborated Artificial Intelligence or commonly known as Machine Intelligence is a fast growing field of computer science that deals with developing intelligent machines, machines that can work and improvise in any given circumstances, collecting input from their database.

When put like that AI sounds like magic, at least to me, a non tech-y person, it surely did. So let’s look at some of the very popular AI tools.

Clear your throat.

“Alexa, what is the most common use of AI today?”

If Alexa could roll her eyes at me, she would!

That’s right. Virtual assistant Siri, Alexa, Amazon’s transactional algorithm, Pandora’s “musical DNA” are all very common and smart implementations of AI in our everyday life.

AI is a comparatively newer field and rapidly growing, there’s vast scope for new research and development here. More and more people are getting interested in the field and rightfully so, there’s so much yet left to explore.

How much is the Artificial Intelligence industry worth?

There are four types of AI, of which only the first two we commonly know of, Reactive machines and Limited memory AI. The other two are the receptive machines of the future that we want to build. Theory of Mind and Self Awareness AI.

So, you see, there’s still so much uncharted territory that we could easily lay down the hope of some apple trees for our AI Einsteins and nobody would mind. Tons of young impressionable minds are going into the AI industry every single year. According to MarketWatch, The global artificial intelligence (AI) market was charted at $4.06 billion in 2016 and is projected to reach $169.41 billion by 2025, registering a CAGR of 55.6% from 2016 to 2025

Those are some pretty big numbers but are you wondering how this industry is growing so big without you noticing? That’s because AI is pretty much everywhere around us, so commonplace and everyday that they don’t standout to us anymore.

Common Industries that use AI include Healthcare and medicine, Education, Marketing, Small businesses, Retail and ecommerce, public relations, and even in recruitment.

Career in Artificial Intelligence

Now that you know how common and accessible AI is, don’t you want to learn the how to-s? You and me both. So where do we get started? What are the pre requisites?

Anyone looking at an AI career would need to know basic Statistics, Linear Algebra, Calculus and Programming language.

You can find courses on Statistics and Mathematics on Coursera and Khan Academy. Practicing Mathematics is downright crucial for machine learning.

Efficiency in programming languages is essential. AI is the study of developing algorithm that can adapt and learn. Basic knowledge in programming languages like Python or lisp is necessary for that purpose. Bohubrihi offers a very well thought out course plan on Python for Beginners.

You now know about AI, its industries and have the map to resources to build a career in AI. But what do I mean by that?

From the high paying job of a Software Analyst, Research Scientist, and Algorithm Specialist to the reputable job of a professor in a specialized field, your options are endless and exciting.

What’s stopping you then? Take a dive into the world of Machine Learning and explore the endless possibilities.
